Assistance to Senior Center

Project Support put on its annual holiday fund raiser at the Senior Center, with to hot chocolate and caroling. Lion Annie represented the Lions Club in helping out.

The weather outside was windy cold, but inside  project support’s holiday fundraiser was delightful with good Cheer and songs from the Evergreen Children's Chorale warming our hearts!

KidSight Vision Screening

We have been able to get back on our regular schedule. We screen several hundred pre-schoolers at public and private schools and day-care centers in 3 counties nearby.

It takes interaction with the kids, so it is fun as well as very worthwhile.

Fall Fund Raiser

As a fund raiser each year, the Lions Club helps with the Fall Foliage Relay Race, which runs from Idaho Springs to Buena Vista.

We help set up, at 3:30 am. Lion Jim checks runners in.

Lion Carolyn checked in equipment and safety gear:

The first runners started their race at 5:00 am. They ran in teams, with each member taking some of the stages in the overall 165-mile race.

Other Lions helped at Exchange check-points, where teams exchanged runners.

Some of the exchange check points were at mountain passes. The race went over three passes of higher than 11,000 feet elevation.

One of the opportunities for those who got up early was to see the sunrise over Mt. Bierstadt, one of several peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation along the race course.

Lions Annual Picnic

Each year, the Idaho Springs Lions club holds a picnic. Not only is this a time for members and families to enjoy each other's company, but it is an opportunity for the formal processes of installing new members and officers of the club.

This year, the picnic was held at Courtney-Riley-Cooper Park in town.

Of course, a picnic has to have some good food.

PDG Roy Donaldson installed the officers for the coming year.

Christmas in July

The city of Idaho Springs sponsored a Christmas in July event. This provided a good opportunity for the club.

Lions Mary and Barb raised the tent (with a little help from nearby friends) and raised Lions Awareness and money for the Social Salvation Orphanage of Nepal.

Peace Poster Contest

The Lions' Peace Poster Contest is open to young people.

The Clear Creek Rock House provides local teens a safe, supervised place where they can recreate and receive life skills training from caring adults. The Rock House does this through mentoring, tutoring, after-school programs and events.

So our club invited the Rock House teens to join in.

Here is Lion Mike engaging the kids, and telling them about our Lions Club....

...letting them know about our service to the community… our yearly scholarship that they can apply for some day.  Director Cheryl Holmberg had them tell us about what they do for the community and what programs and adventures are available to them through the Rock House.

Lions Mike, Jack, Carolyn, Barb, Brandi, Mary, Vicky and Sandy were on hand to help feed the group, including Cheryl and Three staff members.

After eating, the Peace Poster Contest supplies were laid out - with a variety of mediums for creating a piece of artwork with the theme.

Health Fair

Every year for decades, the Lions Club has led the annual Health Fair in Idaho Springs. Originally this had been organized by Channel 9 television station, but now it is a separate organization.

For the last couple of years we were not able to hold the health fair, largely due to the pandemic. This year, we were delighted to be able to hold the event once again.

This year, we had support from many organizations:

Of course, everything starts with Signing In:

There were many stations for physical and mental health check-ups and screenings:

...until it was time to Sign Out:

Face-to-Face Meetings Are Back!

We had our first face-to-face meeting that we have had since the pandemic started over two years ago. It was good to see people again!

We had breakfast at Marion's of the Rockies. Einar Jensen from the South Metro Fire District gave a very informative talk about preparing for wildfires-- a topic that is so important where we live.

Relief for Marshall Fire Victims

At the end of last year, a rapidly-moving wildfire starting near Marshall, Colorado, swept through Marshall, Superior, and Louisville. Over a thousand homes were destroyed in a few hours. Lions District 6C was heavily involved is setting up a relief center to provide food, clothing and other essentials for the people left homeless.

Today, Lion Annie volunteered at the distribution center:
