Flaming Foliage Relay Race

Every Fall, there is a Flaming Foliage Relay Race,  a foot race starting in Idaho Springs and ending 165 miles later in Buena Vista-- after having crossed the Continental Divide 3 times. Being a relay race, there are quite a few "Exchange" places, where one runner takes over from another. The race organizers need people to staff these Exchanges. The Lions Club offers members to volunteer to manage the Exchanges, and in turn, the race organizers donate substantially to the club. So it works out as a good fund-raiser for the club.

The race starts pre-dawn, with the first runners departing at 5:00am. But by that time some of the volunteers had already been on the job for an hour and a half.
