Merchants in town contribute to the club, to have flags hung in front of their stores for each holiday. The contributions for the flags funds the Lions Club annual scholarship to a student graduating from the Clear Creek High School

Scholarship Award

Lions Club Treasurer Jeff Norton presents the Lions Club Eugene Kiefer Memorial Scholarship to Zachary Schell at the Clear Creek High School Awards Assembly.

Zach won the $1500 scholarship in a competition with many very qualified applicants.  Zach plans to study Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University.

Gene Kiefer was a long-time resident of Idaho Springs, and a founding member of the Idaho Springs Lions Club in 1952.  He served the community in many ways, including as Sheriff.  Perhaps the most important of his priorities was helping the youth in Clear Creek County, so the Lions Club offers this scholarship each year in his honor.
